Evita Nuh (IN), a 10-year-old fashionista who puts us (in our twenties) to shame

Posted December 11th, 2009 in Uncategorized by Deanna

It was 2 days ago.

As usual, whenever I come back from work, I go online, surf, check my Bloglines feeds. Then there are 3 sites I’d opened; Tongue in Chic, quaintly.net and Frocking Around.

I’ve always enjoyed reading Tongue in Chic. It gives me a glimpse (or at least, update the poor katak-di-bawah-tempurung me) of what’s hot in the fashion world in SEA. Anyway, I saw this post:

ticUnlike my usual reaction for TiC posts (which involves Oooh, Aahh, Whoa that’s so cool), I went:

“Oh no. Not another VOTE-ME-IM-PRETTY competition. Ugh.” *palm2forehead. Honestly speaking, I wasn’t keen on this kind of competition. Sure, it was fun when you vote for someone you actually know (twice)…but then, more competitions of the similar kinds sprouted out and before y’know it, it became more of a drag.

But I clicked, anyhow.

And that’s the story on how I found out about Evita Nuh, the 10-year-old fashionista from Indonesia.

She’s been nominated under the category of The Face To Watch Out for 2010 in the Tongue in Chic’s Annual Style Awards 2009. And it’s (really) no surprise on her being nominated. Her fashion taste is simply mind-grabbing!

TiC also featured her in their site, which I’m really glad because she deserves the limelight!

Go to her blog and you’d enjoy seeing more of her masterpieces:

Like her pulling off a Katie Holmes Boyfriend look-jeans better than Katie Holmes herself

Or her huuuuuuuuuuge variety of socks:

A great excuse to be 10 again

And how she pairs her clothes with matching props, like pairing her socks with a delicious red-lips handbag:

You gotta love black flats. The red lips reminded me of my good friend, Daron.

Whoah, let us not forget her lovely collection of shoes, shoes, shoes!

She puts all of us in our twenties, to shame.

Not only she wears her clothes/shoes/accessories good, but the way she wears is something that grasp me. I mean, look at the pictures again (better so, go to her blog!).

Look at how she poses.

Look at the layers of her clothes. The different pieces – the necklace, the bangles, the top and skirt as an ensemble.

Look at her expression, you’d realize she’s really in the moment. That expression is called passion.

I’d like to also mention how much I adore the photography in Evita’s blog.  I think her big sister (1…2?) takes them. I hereby acknowledge Evita’s Kakak for being an excellent photographer (and perhaps, a photo editor too, hehe)! The lighting and composition is well-executed and I’m pretty sure she has a say on helping her younger sister on how to pose, etc. Kudos to you too, Kak!

Evita’ creative spunk is something I really admire. The following photos of her in different shades made me laugh:

A memory lane to the Beatles.

MEvita going Divaness.

And she draws really well too (I know, I went whatttttt himym-style)

My favorite photo of her is this one:

Aaah, I wanna get a beret. And that pants too! And the brown suspenders. Man, I wish I was that stylish when I was 10! Or even now…tsk.

It was invigorating, reading a blog of a 10-year-old (hmm she must be frustrated the fact that a lot of people are amazed she’s young…but we are! :)) who already has so much passion in what she loves.

It made me think that in the great depths of my workaholic-ness, I’ve forgotten about:

1. Taking care of myself

2. Exploring creativeness in different ways

We get so busy that we forget.

So I may despise the competition…but nonetheless, I’m glad I clicked the link or else, I wouldn’t have found a great read and have my passion reignited.

All the best in the competition, Evita!
